Position Goal: Safely and efficiently transport students. Work requires ability to safely operate vehicles and ability to positively represent the district to students, parents and community.
Essential Duties and Responsiblities:
- Maintain safe conditions for transporting students. Ensure student safety and welfare by communicating and maintaining safety rules.
- Observe all traffic laws, Pa Department of Transportation regulations and district policies and procedures.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required.
- Maintain positive attitude and alertness and anticipate and make allowances for poor attitudes and driving of other motorists.
- Greet students as they load and unload onto the vehicle. Maintain courteous and positive relationships with students, parents and community members.
- Report all incidents involving or near vehicle to supervisor. Submit all required reports on a timely basis.
- Inform supervisor of any disciplinary problems, bus conditions, highway conditions and change in pick up or discharge conditions.
- Never change bus stop or route without permission from supervisor.
- Inspect vehicle and document any issues.
- Must participate in random drug testing and annual physicals in accordance with PA law.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist as other drivers as required.
- Assist with equipment repairs and maintain a clean and safe vehicle.
- Maintain valid clean driver license with CDL Class “B” and recertify every 4 years as required for driving school bus or van.

Position Specifications:
Educational Level: High School Diploma or GED
Work Year: Part-time Position, 10-month (September to June)
Physical Demands:
Frequent bending, stooping, reaching and grasping.
Must be able to operate and drive a motor vehicle.
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Occasional light lifting – maximum 20 pounds.
Sensory Abilities:
Visual acuity to be able to operate a motor vehicle.
Auditory acuity to be able hear students and emergency sirens.
Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
Work Environment:
Operating a motor vehicle (bus or van) daily.
Exposure to weather.
Noise level is moderate to loud.
Temperament:
Must be courteous and be able to deal effectively with people
Must be cooperative, congenial, and service oriented
Cognitive Ability:
Ability to read, write, and do simple computation
Ability to follow written and verbal directions
Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision

Valid PA Driver’s License
